Early Lead Allows Raiders to Cruise Over Auggies

MILWAUKEE – Despite some time off, the women's lacrosse team didn't show any signs of rust using an early lead over Augsburg University to claim their second win of the season.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 11

Augsburg - 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Augsburg (2-9, 0-1 MLC) didn't waste any time to jump ahead of the home team, scoring the first goal in the first 40 seconds. MSOE (2-3, 0-0 NACC) took advantage of two free position opportunities with Maggie Sanderson and Alana Perry netting goals before getting two more quick goals from Lilly Johnson and Vayda Flower scoring within 23 seconds of each other as the Raiders headed into the second quarter with a 4-1 lead.
  • Immediately after the second quarter began, the Auggies cut into their deficit at the 14:51 mark to make the score 4-2. Immediately the Auggies made the game 4-3, Johnson took the draw control and drove down the field for her second of the game as the Raiders went on another four-goal run to head into intermission with an 8-3 lead.
  • Things slowed down immensely in the second half as the Auggies score until midway through the third quarter with Flower picking up her third goal of the day and Emily Runey scoring on a free position attempt. The defense and goalkeeper Megan Lacina continued to keep thing quiet, allowing only more goal the rest of the and Megan Strong adding some insurance with her first career goal to win 11-5.
