WINONA, Minn. – The MSOE women's volleyball closed out the second day of the Sugar Loaf Classic with a split of Luther College and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- vs. Luther
- After going down quick, MSOE (2-5, 0-0 NACC) rolled out five straight points, including two service aces from Emma Schattschneider. Luther (3-4, 0-0 American Rivers) never let the Raiders pull far away with the lead until the serves from Olivia Bartels proved to be lethal as she finished out the first set with three consecutive service aces to win 25-18.
- The Raiders continued that momentum into the second set with a 6-1 lead out of the gate, capped by a kill from Samantha Johnson. The Norse settled in to take a 9-8 before both sides began to battle with one-another. Down 17-16, a kill from Abby Balkema spearheaded a 9-2 run to finish off the second set 25-19 to give the Raiders a two-set advantage.
- They continued to go after each other early in set three until midway through, Norse miscues began to cost them as the Raiders went up 17-12. Eventually storming back to tie things at 21, the Raiders strung points together, capped by another service ace from Schattschneider to cap things off 25-21.
- Balkema led the Raiders with eight kills, followed by Schattschneider and Ava Larson with six. Schattschneider had a staggering eight service aces to contribute to her day, along with having six digs. Morgan Borchardt picked up the majority of the assists in the first match, totaling 16.
- vs. Wisconsin-La Crosse
- After a slow start, Wisconsin-La Crosse (2-4, 0-0 WIAC) took a commanding lead midway through before Bartels helped bring the set within two after a service ace and a dump. The Eagles stayed in control from there to win set one 25-21. Eagle miscues hurt them early in set two as the Raiders held the lead for the vast majority, including a 17-13 lead past the midway point. The Raiders killed the final three points from Larson, Johnson, and Schattschneider, winning 25-21 to tie the match at one set each.
- The Eagles regrouped to take a 13-8 advantage, which Raiders never allowed to grow any larger throughout the set. With ease, the Eagles took the set three win 25-20 to go up 2-1. Set four saw the Eagles put their foot on the gas, storming out of the gates to a 21-9 lead, eventually coming away with set and match comfortably 25-13.
- Schattschneider let with 13 kills, while also having seven digs and just one service ace. Johnson added nine kills, along with Ana Knutson who had seven. Borchardt continued to rack up assists, adding 22, while Joelle Harrington had 15.

The Raiders return to action next Friday, September 13
th, for the Monmouth Invitational, first taking on Central College at 3:00 PM and Westminster College at 7:00 PM.
