RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE women's basketball team brought their winning streak to three games on Wednesday night as the Raiders overcame a slow start to beat the Cougars of Concordia Chicago for their first conference win on the road this season.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 63
Concordia Chicago - 50
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (8-6, 4-1 NACC) trailed the Cougars (1-12, 0-6 NACC) for the entirety of the first quarter, as the Red and White shot just 28% from the field in the opening ten minutes of play. The Cougars opened the second quarter with a three pointer, but MSOE answered the call as Sam Schmitt found Lana Kerley for a three pointer that kicked off the Raiders comeback. After Mahima Chokshi converted back-to-back jumpers, Dani Mendez put the Raiders ahead 21-20 following a nice left-handed finish on a drive to the basket. The Raiders would lead 26-22 courtesy of a couple Aleah Butterbrodt free throws to close out the first half.
- The Raiders would push their lead to double digits following a Halena Hill jumper at the 4:09 mark of the third quarter. Nicole Levine would go on a short heat check, scoring seven straight points for the Red and White as the third quarter turned to the fourth. The Raiders would go eight-for-twelve from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, while the MSOE defense battened the hatches and held the Cougars to 17% shooting in the final frame to halt any hopes of a comeback from Concordia Chicago.
