Women's Basketball Victorious in First Road Trip of Season

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The MSOE women's basketball team played in their first road game of the season on Saturday afternoon, with the Raiders securing their fourth straight win as they toppled the Yellow Jackets 61-53.

FINAL SCORE

MSOE RAIDERS – 61
UW-Superior Yellow Jackets - 53

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (4-1, 0-0 NACC) and UW-Superior (1-4, 0-0 UMAC) were deadlocked in a defensive battle in the first half, as the Raider offense struggled to get in rhythm against the Yellow Jackets.  MSOE would hold an 8-7 lead after the first frame, before trading the lead back-and-forth in the second.  A jumper from Halena Hill gave MSOE a two-possession lead but the Yellow Jackets would fight back, with the game tied up 18-18 at the break and the Raiders offensive numbers slowly returning to form.
  • In the second half, both teams started to get hot, trading baskets back-and-forth before a three from Hill and a couple free throws from Dani Mendez began to build up the Raider lead.  MSOE would lead by as much as nine points in the third quarter after Elly Kohl went two-for-two from the free throw line as the Red and White led 45-40 with one quarter to play.
  • The Yellow Jackets would tie the game up after making their opening shots of the fourth quarter.  Hill would lead the Raiders in scoring for the second straight game, nailing a midrange jumper to give MSOE a 47-45 lead, and after a Mahima Chokshi jumper put the Raiders up four points, they just had to hit their free throws from there.  The Raiders secure their fourth consecutive victory, and their first road win of the season as they gear up for the start of their conference slate.
