Softball Rolls Past Westbury and Ripon to Begin THE Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. – The MSOE softball kicked off their time in the Sunshine State with a bang, sweeping their first day of competition against SUNY Old Westbury and Ripon College.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 5
SUNY Old Westbury – 1

MSOE RAIDERS – 9
Ripon - 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs. SUNY Old Westbury
    • Katie Pollock took the circle and got herself out back-to-back jams to open and keep Old Westbury (0-1, 0-0 Skyline) off the scoreboard. In the top of the third, MSOE (2-2, 0-0 NACC) got a pair of baserunners on with an error and a bunt single with two outs. Jenna O'Donnell stepped to the plate and rocketed one into left center to bring both around and head to third to give them a 2-0 lead.
    • The Raiders added to their lead in the next inning when they once again at two runners on base and Addie Kortman hit a roller right through the middle of the field to score Brynn Kerber to extend the lead to three. The Panther got on the scoreboard with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to make it 3-1. The top of the seventh, the Raiders added some cushion when O'Donnell hit another one to the fence to score a run, followed by Jayda Nelson adding an RBI single to seal the game 5-1.
  • vs. Ripon
    • After a rain delay messed up the rhythm of the first two innings, Ripon (1-5, 0-0 Midwest) struck first after loading the baseball for an infield fielder choice to score a run. The scoring continued and then some in the bottom half when Carlee Emery got things started with a two RBI single into left to take the lead 2-1. Autumn Sadler and Caroline Fouras each added RBI singles of their own to extend the lead to 4-1.
    • The runs continued to florish for the Raider offense when in the bottom of the fourth, O'Donnell doubled into left center to score Emma Smith making it 5-1. In the bottom of the sixth and loading up the bases, a wild pitch from the Red Hawks brought Ari Seibel Guerrero around to score before Nelson ended the game with a two-run single up to middle to make it 8-1.
