Baseball Fall to Kohawks and Pointers at RussMatt Invite

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The MSOE baseball team clashed with the Kohawks of Coe College and the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point on Monday's action at the RussMatt Florida Invitational, as the Raiders were unable to get ahead of either team.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Coe College – 8

MSOE RAIDERS – 1
UW-Stevens Point - 6

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs Coe
    • Morgan Davis took the mound for the Raiders against the Kohawks, getting touched up in the first two innings, but locking down in his final four innings of work, delivering a quality start for the Red and White with six innings pitched and three earned runs.
    • Trailing the Kohawks 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Christian Bosque reached on a fielder's choice and AJ Le was hit by a pitch to put two runners on with just one out.  Jake Franks steeped into the box and slapped a double down the right field line, cutting the MSOE deficit in half as they trailed 4-2 with three innings to go.
    • In the top of the seventh, the Kohawks loaded the bases, drawing two walks with the bags full, as the Raiders were unable to find a spark down the stretch as they fell to Coe by a final score of 8-2.
  • Vs Stevens Point
    • Stevens Point would tag the Raiders for runs in the second, third and fourth inning, leading MSOE 4-0 by the end of the fourth inning.  The Raiders would respond in the bottom of the inning as Bosque turned on the after burners, stretching a single into a double, before stealing third looking to spark the Raider rally.  Elias Lopez would reach on an error by the Pointers third baseman, getting the Raiders on the board as they still trailed 4-1.
    • Kaleb Martin would enter in relief for the Raiders and stepped up big time for the Red and White, going 5.2 innings with two strikeouts, allowing his only runs on a homerun in the eighth.  Despite the tremendous effort from Martin in relief, the Raider's were unable to get anything going at the plate, as they closed out Monday afternoon with a 6-1 loss.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders close out their Florida Trip tomorrow, March 18th, against the DePauw Tigers at 9:15 A.M. (ET) from NorthEast Regional Park in Davenport.
