Raiders Extinguish Inferno in Lopsided Sweep

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE softball team swept their two-game series with Alverno College on Thursday afternoon, with the Raiders shutting out the Inferno in game one as they got back in the win column after a couple lopsided victories.

RESULTS

MSOE RAIDERS – 7
Alverno College - 0

MSOE RAIDERS - 18
Alverno College - 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (14-18, 10-6 NACC) and Alverno (1-26, 0-16 NACC) were scoreless through the first two innings until the Raiders got on the board with an Autumn Sadler double that allowed Caroline Fouras to score. Jenna O'Donnell followed it up with an RBI single to bring Sadler home, as the Raiders held a 2-0 lead after three innings.
    • An RBI single from Fouras in the top of the fourth would extend the MSOE lead to 3-0, giving Katie Pollock plenty of run support as she extinguished the Inferno all afternoon. Pollock would finish with seven innings pitched, allowing just two baserunners while striking out eleven as she picked up her tenth win of the season. The Raiders added one run in the sixth, before loading the bases in the top of the seventh, as Jayda Nelson drove a bases-clearing double to left center field, with MSOE winning game one by a final score of 7-0.
  • Game Two
    • In game two the Raiders jumped out in front in the top of the first, as Carlee Emery singled through the right side of the infield, bringing in two runs for MSOE. Pollock followed it up with a single up the middle to add another for the Red and White, as MSOE ended the first inning leading Alverno 4-0 on an RBI groundout from Fouras.
    • With the Raiders up 5-0 in the bottom of the third, the Inferno would show their first signs of life all afternoon, tagging MSOE for three runs on two hits and an error from the Raiders.  The Raiders would strike right back in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from O'Donnell and a sac fly from Nelson, before Fouras and Olivia Beals drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks to give the Raiders a 9-3 advantage.
    • The Red and White would double their run total in the top of the fifth, batting around the order and hanging a whopping nine runs on the Inferno. Brynn Timmer would shut down Alverno the rest of the way as the Raiders secured the 18-3 win in five innings, marking their tenth conference win of the season.
