Men's Volleyball Takes #14 Duhawks to Five-Set Thriller

MILWAUKEE – In an all out battle with one of nation's nationally ranked programs, the MSOE men's volleyball falls just short with #14 Loras College in a five-set thriller in their home opener.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 2

#14 Loras - 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Loras (3-0, 0-0 CCIW) was first to make a break-through at the 7-6 mark going on a 6-0 run to lead by seven at the halfway point of the first set. A 4-0 run capped by an ace from Callan Harris cut the deficit down to two at 18-16 before the Duhawks slowly began to build their lead back up before winning 25-19. The Raiders were the first to grab momentum in the second set as Seth Thomas led a 5-0 run with two kills to lead 11-6. With the Duhawks cutting it down to three, the Raiders exploded on a 7-0 run with Filip Topor acing three serves to make it 20-10 as Gregory Kubon finished off a phenomenal set by the Red & White as they won 25-15.
  • The Duhawks regrouped to lead 8-4 early, keeping a steady but small lead throughout the set. Just two points away from a set win, the Raiders went on a 6-0 run to tie things up, escaping with a 26-24 set win. The Raiders used that momentum to open the fourth, leading 6-3 before the Duhawks eventually tied it at six. Essentially trading points all the way to 19, the Raiders couldn't find any way for the ball to land in play as the Duhawks won 25-19 to tie up the match.
  • Harris had a hot swing to begin the fifth, making four kills to lead 6-3 until the Duhawks crawled back to tie the set at nine. Getting to match point, the Duhawks turned up the heat to go on a 5-1 run to ultimately take the final set 17-15.
