Kerley Drops Season-High 28 Points in Win Over Dominican

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The MSOE women's basketball team hosted their first home game of the New Year, welcoming the visiting Stars of Dominican University to Edgar Hotchkin Arena.  The Raiders would close their season series with a 2-0 record against Stars following the one-sided win for the Red and White, who held Dominican without a made field-goal for the opening sixteen minutes of the contest.

FINAL SCORE

Dominican Stars – 40
MSOE Raiders - 79

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (9-2, 4-0 NACC) was dominant from the get-go, holding Dominican (6-7, 0-5 NACC) to just four first quarter points, all from free throws, as the Raiders built a 19-4 lead after the first ten minutes of play.  The Raiders would shoot seven-for-eleven from deep in the first half, including four from Lana Kerley, who would finish with season-high 28 points.  The Raiders would allow their first made field goal of the first half with 3:46 left in the first half, but the Stars late turnaround was proving to be irrelevant with the Red and White leading 40-17 at the break.
  • Following halftime, the Raiders brand of basketball continued to be team-oriented, as the Red and White would finish with 21 assists as a team, with Elly Kohl, Emily Troia and Maggie Lewandowski each recording a team-high four.  The Raiders lead would reach more than 30 points after back-to-back layups from Dani Mendez and Kerley, while the defense continued to shine with MSOE holding Dominican to just 33.3% shooting from the field.  The Raiders would finish just one point shy of doubling up the Stars, as a backdoor layup from Emily Ross but the bow on the lopsided victory for MSOE with a 79-40 final score from the Kern Center.
