MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's basketball matched the pace of Illinois Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon, as
Jonathan Burroughs and
Carson Cordelli each throw down 20+ point performances to defeat the Scarlet Hawks.
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 87
Illinois Tech - 75
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Kern Center was rocking early as Burroughs slammed one home on the lob from Cordelli on the opening possession before Ethan Johnson converted an and-one on the next to lead 5-0 quickly. Illinois Tech (6-16, 4-11 NACC) took a 14-12 lead with 11:43 to play in the first half but an 8-0 run with threes from Burroughs and Mason Dopirak made it 20-14 to force a timeout. After the Scarlet Hawks tied it once again, Burroughs slammed another one to get the lead back but was overtaken with 4:23 to go. A 10-2 run from the MSOE (15-7, 13-2 NACC) gave them their largest lead just before the half as they eventually went into the break leading 34-29.
- The Raiders opened the second half on a 7-0 run to a double-digit lead for the first time, leading 41-29. That run proved to be monumental as each mini run the Scarlet Hawks would make, the Raiders would answer with their one of their own as their lead didn't get significantly higher until 2:56 to play when Burroughs knocked in a pair of free throws to lead by 15. Dopirak would seal the game on free throws in the final minute to secure it.
