HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs. Benedictine
    • Things were neck-and-neck early until Benedictine (8-9, 4-2 NACC) went on a 7-1 run to lead 12-7 at the midway point of the opening set. Callan Harris led a charge with a pair of kills and then an ace to tie the set at 15 before another ace to lead 16-15. The Eagles took just a point advantage for the next few rallies until a solo block from Harris put MSOE (14-6, 7-0 NACC) ahead 21-20. After the Eagles were just two away from taking the match, the Raiders began to roll on three straight, including Gregory Kubon killing a free ball to win 25-23.
    • The Eagles opened set two on a 5-2 run, forcing the Raiders to fight back early as they tied it at 11. As the Eagles marched on to lead 19-14, a 5-0 run led by Kubon gave the Raiders the first lead of the set 22-21. Trading points back-and-forth with the Raiders having the edge at set point, two straight kills from Kubon clinched the set 28-26. The Raiders completely unloaded on the Eagles to open set three, opening with a 7-1 lead with Harris acing two. A 6-1 run blew the set completely open as they led 16-3 as while the Eagles put up a fight late, Hunter Carroll put in the final nail to win 25-16.
    • Seth Thomas and Harris posted double-doubles with 12 kills and 12 digs while Kubon added in 11 kills. Parker Rings handled the setting duties for the match, posting 40. Harris also led the team at the net, having three blocks while Matthew Schultz added two.
  • vs. Westminster
    • Trading small advantages early, Westminster (17-6) took control early with a 7-4 lead but their largest lead was on at the 10-6 mark. Bram Griever and Kubon helped cut it down to a two-point difference at 10-8 but the Raiders couldn't get it past that mark to drop set one 25-21.
    • The Bluejays took a commanding lead early to go up 13-7 at the midway point of set two. Ryan Huff led a charge to cut down to a three-point difference late, 20-17, until the Bluejays put their foot down to win the set 25-19. Despite the Raiders going down early in set two, Griever led a 7-0 run, having two kills and two blocks, to lead 11-9. The Bluejays nailed back-to-back aces to retake the lead 13-12 before Carroll connected on back-to-back kills to open a 4-0 run to lead 16-13. Leading 22-20, the Raiders gave up four straight to fall victim to match point and despite forcing two errors to tie it at 24, the Bluejays finished the job with two straight to win 26-24.
    • Griever posted a double-double to lead the Raiders, having 15 kills with 10 digs. Huff also knocked in double-digit kills, having ten. Rings assisted on 20 kills, while Juan J. Llona Baez had eight and Reed Hefley added seven.
