Raiders Fast Start Not Enough Against CUW

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's hockey team hosted the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday night, as the Raiders hot start was not enough to hold off CUW, who recorded five straight goals to take the first game of the weekend series.

FINAL SCORE
CUW Falcons – 5

MSOE Raiders - 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After trading shots to open the first period, MSOE (3-2-0, 2-1-0 NCHA) would strike first, as Jacob Bosse followed up a rebound from Eddie Shepler and buried it in the net, giving the Raiders an early lead at the 6:06 mark.  With just 29 seconds left to go in the first period, it was Seth Bernard who made another play off the rebound, this time from Adam Smith as MSOE went to the first intermission holding a 2-0 lead.
  • The second period would remain scoreless for over twelve minutes, until CUW (2-3-0, 1-2-0 NCHA) recorded their first goal of the game on the powerplay cutting the MSOE lead to 2-1.  The Falcons would tie things up with just over two minutes to play in the second frame, with the teams knotted up at 2-2 with 20 minutes to play.
  • After the Raiders successfully killed a penalty, it seemed the momentum was turning in the Red and White's favor, but two goals from the Falcons in a 22-second span gave CUW a 4-2 lead with 9:28 remaining in the game.  Shepler nearly got the Raiders on the board with a wrist shot on goal, but the Falcons held firm, adding one more goal to their total as they toppled the Raiders to open the weekend.
