Women's Soccer Advances to NACC Tournament Semifinals

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The MSOE women's soccer team hosted their quarterfinal matchup of the NACC Tournament on Sunday afternoon, squaring off against the No. 7 seed Spartans of Aurora University.  The Raiders would power past the Spartans on the heels of two first-half goals as they advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament.

RESULT
Aurora University Spartans – 0
MSOE RAIDERS – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (13-5-2, 10-1-1 NACC) wasted little time, jumping out ahead of Aurora (5-12-1, 5-6-1 NAAC) just two minutes into the contest, as Faith Papazoglou fed a pass to Alexis Jamiola, who delivered a strike to the corner of the net to give the Raiders an early 1-0 lead.  The Raiders would control the ball most of the first half, racking up ten shots while the Spartans mustered just one.  As the first half began to wind down, the Raiders would convert an opportunity from the corner, as Hadleigh Ostrenga placed a ball perfectly for Alexis Lugonzo, who recorded her second career goal, putting the Red and White ahead 2-0 heading into the break.
  • The Raiders would fend off a couple of corner kick attempts from the Spartans to start the second quarter, as the Raiders continued to maintain control up-and-down the pitch.  With less than 20 minutes to go, Elizabeth Kuhn would add one more for the Raiders, pushing the MSOE lead to 3-0, which would hold until the game went final.  The Raiders advance to the NACC Tournament semifinals once again, as they gear up to host the No. 3 seed Edgewood University Eagles.
