Sorenson's School Record Leads Men at Karl Schlender

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The MSOE men's track & field team was back in action Saturday, competing at the Karl Schlender Invitational, hosted by University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Raiders saw three first-place finishes from their distance crew, along with a new school record set by Sam Sorenson.

RECAP 
  • Sorenson broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.32 seconds to finish in third event. His time now puts him 29th nationally. Also in the sprints, Nana Adubofour finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.78, with Daniel Geerts right behind him in third in 23.07. The quartet of Jack Schwartz, AJ Springer, Nathaniel Asiedu-Mensah, and Aiden Guida took third in the 4x400-meter relay with a total time of 3:35.44.
  • In his first race since last March, Springer didn't show any signs of rust as he cruised to victory in the 800-meter run in 1:54.50, currently sitting him sixth nationally. Behind him was Chase Nogalski in 1:56.77, which is currently 32nd in Division III. Kolby Dax led a 1-2-3 finish in the 5,000-meter run, running a new personal best time of 15:07.58, putting him 33rd in the country. Patrick Lee and Zach Zuzzio went two-three running 15:25.84 and 15:31.14, respectively. Sam McPeak won the 3,000-meter run in 8:57.12, while Jackson Braun took third in 9:09.86.
  • Over in the field events, Cameron O'Brien and Korvan Nameni both cleared 4.20 meters to finish second and fourth respectively in the pole vault, coming down to misses. Adubofour finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.36 meters, while James Paulson took third with 12.44 meters. In the throws, Elijah Villa led both events for the Red & White, taking second in the weight throw with 15.85 meters, and fourth in the shot put with a toss of 14.19 meters.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Raiders head back to University of Chicago next Saturday, January 31st for the Windy City Rumble. Action is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
