FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The MSOE Women's Hockey team fell Saturday night to Marian University despite finding massive powerplay success.
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Marian - 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (8-10-2, 5-6-2 NCHA) controlled the game on their offensive from the opening puck drop, leading the shots battle 8-5. Snagging an early powerplay opportunity, the Raiders wasted no time getting on the board after Lexi Jackson took it down the right for a wrap-around goal to lead 1-0 just 3:02 in. Keeping Marian (10-9-0, 7-6-0 NCHA) silent for the remainder of the first, the Raiders held their lead at the first break.
- Seconds into the second period beginning, the Raiders found themselves on the powerplay yet again and just like the previous time, the Raiders struck as MaryFrancis Williams fed Amy McDonald at the point for a quick one-timer to extend the lead to two. Five minutes later, it was the Sabres turn on the powerplay as they answered the bell to cut the Raider to one. Nearing the end, the game completely flipped as the Sabres tied up the game with 4:10 left in the period and then taking the lead just a minute later, leading 3-2 at the second break.
- The Raiders picked up the pace in the third, making ten shots compared to the Sabres' eight. Williams led the charge in the period making three of them but couldn't find any to go in as the Sabres put the game on ice with just over nine minutes to play.
