Women's Basketball Closes Regular Season with Win Over Spartans

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day and closed out the regular season on Saturday, clashing with Aurora University in Hotchkin Arena.  The Raiders would hold off a late comeback from the Spartans as the Red and White locked in the spot for the NACC Tournament.

FINAL SCORE

Aurora Spartans – 55
MSOE RAIDERS – 56

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (17-6, 12-4 NACC) trailed Aurora (20-5, 12-4 NACC) for most of the first quarter, until a Lana Kerley three gave the Raiders a 10-9 lead with 3:39 left in the frame.  After trading threes to close the first, the Spartans would hold onto a one-point lead over the Red and White at 17-16.  The Raiders would go on a short 6-0 run to start the second quarter, capped off by Shelby Glodowski layup to put MSOE ahead 22-17.  Gina Falls would connect on another three for the Raiders before the half as the Red and White led the Spartans 29-24 at the break, as the Raiders held Aurora to 0-for-5 from deep across the second frame.
  • Coming out of halftime, a three pointer from Aleah Butterbrodt and layup from Halena Hill pushed the Red and White's lead to eight points, with a layup from Kerley pushing the lead to double digits for the first time with 6:24 left in the third.  The Spartans would not go quietly however, hanging in against the Raiders as they slowly chopped down the MSOE lead, bringing the game within a single possession with 2:36 left in the game.  A Spartans three pointer would put MSOE ahead just 54-53.  After a couple free throws from Dani Mendez and a critical stop on the defense end, the Raiders capped off the senior day celebrations in style with the 56-55 win as they close the regular season with a 12-4 NACC record.
