MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's lacrosse team opened conference play on Thursday night, as the Red and White soared above the Benedictine Eagles to secure their first NACC win of the season.
RESULT
Benedictine University – 5
MSOE RAIDERS – 10
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (5–2, 1-0 NACC) trailed Benedictine (4-2, 0-1) after two early goals from the Eagles in the opening five minutes of the first frame. Freshmen Isaac Johnston and Will Malecha would tally the first two goals of the evening as the Raiders tied the game up at 2-2, with Dawson Smith's unassisted effort giving MSOE a 3-2 lead at the midway point of the quarter. After an Andrew Toman goal pushed the MSOE lead to 4-2 at the end of the first, Smith and Toman would each tally their second goal of the game in the waning moments of the second quarter. The Eagles would bring the score to 6-4 in favor of MSOE after a Benedictine goal ended a nearly ten-minute long scoring drought heading into the second half.
- In a low-scoring third quarter, Malecha added his second goal of the game, and lone of the frame, as the Raiders maintain a 7-4 lead heading into the fourth. Both Smith and Toman would cap off their hattricks, while Alex Lo and the MSOE defense stifled the Eagles, allowing just one fourth quarter goal. The Raiders secure their first conference win of the season in their first try, as they gear up for preseason favorite Aurora on Saturday.
