HOW IT HAPPENED
- vs. North Central
- Eric Williamson held North Central (19-16, 8-9 CCIW) scoreless for two innings until they put two runs across in the third for the advantage. In the sixth, Preston Manthei took one in at the body and Riley Kempf came in to pinch run. Advancing to second off a failed pick off attempt, Kempf came around to score as a Jake Franks hit in the infield sailed past the first baseman, letting him advance to second. MSOE (27-9, 17-3 NACC) tied up the ball game on the next batter as AJ Le sent one to the gap for an RBI triple to make it 2-2.
- The Cardinals retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-2. The Raiders had major opportunities to put the tying run across, including having bases loaded in the seventh and two on in the eighth, but couldn't get one across to drop the opening game.
- vs. Wabash
- After a scoreless first, Wabash (10-23, 3-9 NCAC) got out in front in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly. The Raiders answered in the bottom half as Kyle Mayberry and Robby Erickson reached on a double and hit by pitch. Owen Welch drove in one with a single to right to tie with Franks knocking in the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly. Welch extended the lead streaking home on a passed ball to make it 3-1 after two.
- The Raiders extended the lead in the third as Le rifled a triple to right center to bring around Charlie Claas and Teo Greco. After Camden Hoier drew a full count walk, a miscue from the Little Giants on an infield hit from Erickson brought them both around to make it 7-1. Franks showed off his speed in the fourth, stealing third and forced a throw that went high to come in to score to add on another. The Little Giants cut into the deficit with a run in the fifth but the bullpen of Jaiden Delaney and Jackson Naber finished things off.
