Baseball Suffers Sweep to Cougars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE baseball team suffered a road sweep on Tuesday, dropping both games to Concordia University Chicago.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (27-11, 17-5 NACC) went down early as Concordia Chicago (21-14, 16-6 NACC) put up two in the bottom of the first inning. The Raiders cut the deficit in half in the top of the third as Charlie Claas streaked home during a rundown on the base paths, but was answered in the bottom from the Cougars to make it 4-1. 
    • The Raiders cut it back down to a one-run game in the fourth as Kyle Mayberry ripped an RBI single to left and Robby Erickson knocked in another on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3. In the fifth, Jake Franks launched one to left field over the fence to tie the game and two batters later Claas took the lead with a solo homer himself. The Raiders tact on two more to lead 7-4.
    • The Cougars put across a run in the bottom half of the fifth to cut it to a three run game. Claas answered in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to shallow center for Franks to come home to bring it back to a three-run game, with the Raiders adding another in the seventh to make it 9-5. In the eighth, the Cougars rallied with five runs to retake the lead, shutting down the Raiders in the ninth to steal game one.
  • Game Two
    • The Raiders looked to get back quickly in game two as with runners on first and third, AJ Le stole second to force a throw down from the Cougars, allowing Christian Bosque to steam home for an early run. Mayberry a batter later brought in Le after a drop at first from the first baseman to make it 2-0.
    • The Cougars came back in a massive way, posting five runs in the third to lead 5-2. Le kicked off the top of the fifth with a double into right center and came around just a batter later from Camden Hoier to cut into the deficit. Max Babich came took the mound for the final five innings and held the Cougars scoreless the rest of the way, but they couldn't produce any runs themselves.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders return home for Senior Day on Friday, May 1st to face Edgewood University at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., with the senior day festivities taking place between games.
