Men's Soccer Falls in Rematch with #22 UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The MSOE men's soccer team opened their season with a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament match up, as the Raiders clashed with the #22 team in the nation, the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds.  The Red and White would record two goals in a 23-second span, but three answered goals from the Blugolds gave UW-EC the 5-2 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was a tale of two halves for the Raiders (0-1-0, 0-0-0 NACC) and Blugolds (1-0-0) as neither team was able to produce many scoring chances in the first half.  The Raiders would put two shots on goal to the Blugolds one in the first half, as the teams remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play.
  • After a scoreless first half, the script would flip immediately, as Eau Claire went up 1-0 less than a minute into the second half.  The Blugolds would double-up their lead after a yellow card was assessed to the Raiders, as UW-EC converted the penalty kick to go up 2-0.
  • Diego Gonzalo would put the Raiders on the board with just under 20 minutes remaining in the contest, cutting the Blugolds lead to just one goal.  A mere 23 seconds later, Nico Picha would race down the left side following an errant pass from Eau Claire, as he sent a crossing pass into the box, where it deflected off a Blugolds defender for the equalizing own goal.
  • With the game tied up at 2-2, UW-EC would take advantage of another own goal, this time from the Raiders, to put the #22 team up 3-2 with fifteen minutes left on the clock.  Despite the Raiders best efforts, Eau Claire would net two more before the clock expired, as the Red and White fell in their rematch with the Blugolds.

WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders host their home opener this Saturday, September 5th against North Central College.  The game is scheduled for a 2:00 P.M. kick-off from Viets Field.
