Box Score MILWAUKEE – Freshman Sarabeth Haworth (Colorado Springs, Co. / Mesa Ridge) finished with 25 kills and 21 digs to lead the MSOE women's volleyball team to its first NACC win of the season, a four-set 27-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17 victory over Concordia Chicago Saturday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (6-10, 1-3 NACC) hit .220 for the match and tallied 11 service aces, while limiting the Cougars (3-12, 1-3 NACC) to just .072 hitting.
MSOE overcame a 19-16 deficit in the opening set, scoring six-straight points to take a 21-19 lead it would not relinquish. CU would force extra point, but back-to-back kills broke a 25-25 tie in favor of the Red and White. The Raiders then hit .432 to take the second set, before dropping the third set 25-23.
In the final frame, the home team led 19-17 after a Kristin Allen kill pulled the Cougars within two. Then, the Raiders used five kills to close the match out with six-straight points.
Freshmen Maria Bintz (Germantown, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and Rachel Lynde (Colorado Springs, Co. / Rampart) also reached double-figures in kills with 12 and 14, respectively, while Bintz had a double-double with 11 digs. Junior Martha Savory (Evergreen Park, Ill. / Mother McAuley) directed the offense with a career-high 50 kills.
The Raiders return to action Tuesday, traveling back to Mount Mary to take on the Blue Angels for a third time this season. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
