MSOE Suffers 5-1 Setback To #6 Adrian

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE hockey team scored an early second-period goal to pull within 2-1, but No. 6 Adrian scored three unanswered goals to pull away and claim a series sweep with a 5-1 win Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (0-4, 0-4 NCHA) played strong, but were just unable to get their offense on track against the Bulldogs (4-0, 4-0 NCHA).

The game was similar to the Friday matchup with the Raider offense playing well early, despite not finding the back of the net. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs put in two goals in each of the first two periods for the second day in a row to pull away.

After Ryan Lowe and Justin Basso struck for goals in the opening 10 minutes of the first period, the Red and White came out aggressive in period two and pulled a goal back early. Sophomore Patrick LeBeau struck for his second goal of the season off an assist from freshman Gunnar Regan just 101 seconds into the frame.

Adrian re-established its two-goal advantage with a counter-attack goal by Grant Telfer at 9:50 of the second and Basso added his second on a breakaway just under four minutes later.

In the final period, the Bulldogs capped the scoring just 37 seconds in on an unassisted goal from Michael Hoy.

AC outshot the Raiders 35-21. Sophomore Nick Kohn made 30 saves for the Red and White, while James Hamby stopped 20 shots for the Bulldogs.

MSOE returns to action next weekend with a home-and-home series with Marian. The teams meet in Fond du Lac on Friday and at the Kern Center Saturday. Puck drops at 7 p.m. both days.
