Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Senior Silas Linares scored a goal in his third-straight match, but it was not enough as Dominican scored with under two minutes remaining in the second overtime in a 2-1 loss Wednesday afternoon at West Campus Field.
The Raiders (15-4, 9-1 NACC) saw their seven-game winning streak snapped and now share the NACC Regular Season Championship with the Stars (13-4-2, 9-1 NACC).
MSOE opens the 2014 NACC Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the semifinals Wednesday, hosting the higher remaining seed. Kick-off is at 6 p.m. at Viets Field.
Dominican capitalized on a late yellow card in overtime get a crucial set piece opportunity. Trent Miller placed a ball into the penalty area and Logan Marvin was there to head the ball into the net for the decisive score just 97 seconds from the final whistle.
The Stars had also struck first in the match, taking advantage of defensive confusion by the Raiders and forcing an own goal in the 33rd minute. The home team carried that lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Red & White fought forward, evening out the shots in the match and netting the equalizer. Linares headed home a cross from junior Logan Andryk just seven minutes after halftime to even the match. Senior Marcelo Alves also assisted on the score.
MSOE had a great chance to win the match in the first couple minutes of overtime, as a corner kick from freshman Braden Andrew led to junior Trevor Cwiok's close-range attempt that was saved. Just over five minutes later, Braden Andryk ran onto a strong through ball and blasted a shot just over the crossbar.
Logan Andryk's assist was his 24th of the season, extending his school and conference record. He also took sole possession of first in the nation in the category and moved him into a tie for the seventh-most assists in a season in NCAA Division III history.
Shots finished 14-10 in DU's favor. Senior Garrett Farin made five saves in the match to give the Raiders a chance. A pair of keepers saw time for the Stars and had a save each, with Garbiel Gongora scoring the victory by playing the final 63:21 of the match.
