HOWARDS GROVE, Wis. – Freshman Shannon Curtis threw a pair of four-hit shutouts to guide the MSOE softball team to a pair of 1-0 victories in a doubleheader sweep of Lakeland Monday afternoon at Memorial Park.

The Raiders (20-14, 9-9 NACC) took a pair of games from the Muskies (13-19, 5-13 NACC) to reach the 20-win plateau for the third time in school history and first since 2002. It was also the fourth time they have swept a doubleheader with two shutouts this season.

Curtis (8-7) pushed her season total to a team-best five shutouts, while the MSOE staff has racked up 13 this season. On the day, she struck out 13 and walked seven in addition to the eight hits. Just two LC baserunners reached third base, but both came with two outs and she retired the next batter.

The Raider offense managed just seven hits on the day, but came through in the clutch to push across the runs it needed for the wins.

In the opener, MSOE scored its run in the fifth inning. Junior Mikala Wendt drew a two-out walk in the frame and stole second base. She then came around to score on sophomore Katie Ready's double.

Freshman Callie Wightman drove in the game two run, this time in the Raiders' final at-bat. Sophomore Lauren Boyle reached on an error to lead off the inning and moved up to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Wightman then delivered with a single to right-center to drive the run home.

Ready finished game one with two hits, while Wightman collected a pair of hits in game two.

MSOE is back in action Wednesday, hosting Mount Mary in their annual Strike Out Cancer event. The Raiders and Blue Angels will play two games starting at 3:45 p.m. The first 100 students will receive free food.
