MILWAUKEE – The MSOE softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Lakeland Sunday at MSOE Athletic Field, falling by scores of 4-1 and 3-1.

The Raiders (12-22, 3-15 NACC) have lost 12-straight conference games, while the Muskies (18-18, 9-9 NACC) extended their overall winning streak to 12 games.

Sophomore Shannon Curtis (7-14) threw 5.1 innings in game one, striking out seven. She allowed four hits and walked two, but just one of her four runs allowed was earned after six errors in the game.

At the plate, MSOE was just unable to string together hits to overtake Lakeland. The team had multiple base runners in each of the final four innings, but scored a single run in the fifth. Freshman Gabbi Garcia singled with two outs and came around to score on an error on junior Katie Ready's follow-up base hit.

Back-to-back errors allowed the Muskies to strike first with an unearned run in the fourth inning. They then expanded their lead to 4-0 with three more runs in the fifth. Timely hitting, coupled with a pair of errors opened up a four-run lead for the visitors.

The Raiders scored first in game two, as Garcia led off the first inning with a single. She stole second and took third on a passed ball. Ready then drove her home with a single to centerfield.

LC tied the game with a run in the third inning and pulled ahead with two more runs in the fifth.

The Red & White was unable to get a runner past second base in any of the final three frames.

Curtis started game two, as well, striking out five batters in 6.1 innings and walking none in another strong start.

The Raiders return to action Friday, hosting Marian in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
