MADISON, Wis. – Sophomores Tom Smith and John Price extended their doubles winning streak to 10-straight matches, but it was not enough as the MSOE men's tennis team fell to Edgewood 5-1 in the NACC Championship match Saturday afternoon at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
The Raiders (12-10) advanced to the title match by defeating Concordia Wisconsin (9-12), but could not get past the No. 1 seeded Eagles (16-10).
Smith and Price scored MSOE's lone point in the championship with a 9-8 (9-7) win at No. 2 doubles. The pair finished the season 14-3 in doubles play.
The duo won their doubles match against CUW, 8-6, and added individual wins to clinch the victory. Smith won his ninth-straight singles match, playing at No. 5 and scoring a 6-0, 6-0 win. His Edgewood match was left unfinished when EC clinched the match and he finished the season 12-8 in singles and 9-0 against NACC opponents.
Price won at No. 2 singles against Concordia by a 6-2, 6-4 score. He shared the team lead in wins with Smith and also finished 12-8.
Sophomore David Gorodetsky and the doubles pairing of sophomores Mason Sauder and Austin Campbell also posted wins against the Falcons. Gorodetsky won his No. 3 singles match 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, while Sauder and Campbell were victorious at No. 3 doubles, 8-5.
The Raiders finished the season their most wins since 2009.
