Box Score MILWAUKEE – Three players tallied 10-or-more kills for the MSOE women's volleyball team, but it was not enough as it fell to Marian in five sets Wednesday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (9-5, 0-3 NACC) and Sabres (2-11, 1-2 NACC) alternated sets on the night, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19, 8-25, 15-13.
Junior Rachel Lynde finished with 14 kills and senior Leah Hendricks had 13. Freshman Hannah Pekarek tallied 10 kills and 17 digs, once of five Red & White players to reach double-digits in digs. Junior Sarabeth Haworth also had 17 digs in the match.
Catelyn Brehm led Marian with 11 kills on the night, while Katrina Jensen tallied 26 digs.
The Raiders outhit the Sabres .174 to .087 on the night, including a 52-43 advantage in kills, but could not get over the hump and close out the visitors.
It was a back-and-forth evening for MSOE, as it hit just .073 in the opening set, but bounced back to attack at a .196 rate in the second. After MU pulled ahead in the match 2-1, the Raiders put together a dominating fourth-set performance to force a fifth frame. They hit .526 with 12 kills and just two errors, while the Sabres committed eight errors against just one kill for a 25-8 score.
Unfortunately, the Red & White could not carry that momentum over in the fifth set in dropping a fourth-straight match.
The Raiders return to action this weekend at the IIAC-NACC Crossover at Loras. They play two matches Friday and two more Saturday against IIAC foes.
