Box Score MILWAUKEE – Sophomore Braden Andryk had a hat trick by the 17th minute to pace the MSOE men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Marian Wednesday evening at Viets Field.
The Raiders (8-2, 3-0 NACC) jumped out to that quick 3-0 lead on Andryk's hat trick for a second-straight Wednesday and held on against the Sabres (7-2-1, 1-1-1 NACC), which came into the game as the second-highest scoring offense in the NACC.
MSOE dominated the opening half, with Andryk getting the scoring started early in the 11th and 12th minutes. His first goal came off a takeaway from a defender outside the box and he ricocheted his shot in off the far post from 15 yards out.
Just 67 seconds later, senior Logan Andryk found his younger brother with a diagonal ball to the top of the box. Braden cut the ball inside with his first touch and beat the keeper from just inside the penalty area.
Braden Andryk then capped his hat trick off a pass from sophomore Sean Tabbert in the 17th minute. He took the ball to the box and ripped a shot into the net to make it 3-0.
The Raiders outshot the Sabres 15-3 in the opening half, putting nine shots on target. Additionally, both Andryks hit the woodwork, with Braden hitting the inside of the post in the fifth minute and Logan banging the cross bar on a free kick in the 35th minute.
In the second half, play leveled off some as Marian was able to pull a goal back and keep the Red & White from adding to its lead. Israel Tovar tallied a goal for the visitors in the 62nd minute.
For the match, MSOE held a decisive 23-6 shot advantage, forcing MU's Ian Chacon into 11 saves on the night. Meanwhile, junior Jeff Clements picked up the win in goal with one save.
The Raiders return to action Saturday, playing at Rockford.
