Box Score LISLE, Illinois – Sophomore Hannah Pekarek finished with 17 kills and 11 digs over just three sets, but the MSOE women's volleyball team fell to Benedictine 25-16, 25-19, 25-22, Friday evening at the Rice Center.
The Raiders (2-13, 1-5 NACC) nearly had more kills than the Eagles (10-11, 4-1 NACC), 35-34, but could not overtake the home team.
Pekarek equaled her season-high in kills, while posting a third-straight double-double. Sophomore Elsey Kohlman added six kills in the match.
Kara Epping led Benedictine with eight kills, while Taylor Dunwell and Emily Chitwood added seven apiece.
MSOE saw BenU pull away in the opening set, trailing 14-8, before getting back into the set with a run of five-straight points. Shortly after, the home team responded with five-straight points to re-establish control of the frame.
The roles were reversed in the second set, when the Raiders rattled off an 11-1 run to overcome an early four-point deficit and jump out to a 17-11 lead. Unfortunately, Benedictine evened the score with a 7-1 run and later pulled away for a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the final set, the Red & White jumped out to the early lead and played from ahead late into the match with a 17-14 lead after a Kohlman kill. The Eagles then took the lead with eight-straight points and never looked back.
While nearly matching BenU in kills, MSOE hit .103 for the match against the Eagles' .250.
The Raiders return to the court Tuesday at Rockford.
