Box Score MILWAUKEE – Five different players scored as the MSOE hockey team closed out a weekend sweep of Aurora with a 5-1 victory Saturday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (14-7-1, 8-8-1 NCHA) scored five goals against the Spartans (2-20-1, 2-14-1 NCHA) for the second-straight night and remained in control of their own destiny the race for a berth in the Harris Cup Playoffs.
The score was tied at 1-1 after one period before MSOE rattled off a pair of goals in each of the second and third periods.
Senior Kevin LoGiudice, junior Gage Christianson, sophomores Conner Enciso and Omar Mullan and freshman Matthew Romund scored goals on the night, with Christianson and Enciso adding assists. Sophomore Chris Hinrichs finished with a pair of assists.
Christianson broke the tie with the game-winner at 8:27 of the third period off an assist from Hinrichs. Romund then followed at 16:21, making it 3-1 when he finished a rebound goal off his brother freshman Michael Romund's initial shot.
The Raiders started the third period on the power play and Enciso quickly capitalized just 38 seconds into the period with help from Hinrich's second assist of the night. Mullan rounded out the scoring at 15:31 with assists from Christianson and Enciso.
LoGiudice got the scoring started at 7:43 of the opening period off assists from sophomore Zach Simpson and junior Jordan Guth. The 1-0 lead was short-lived for the Red & White as Aurora responded just 56 seconds later to equalize.
Senior Nick Kohn made 29 saves for the victory as MSOE outshot AU 43-30 on the night. Griffin Strain made the start for the visitors and stopped 38 shots.
The Raiders killed off all five of the Spartans' power plays and converted on 1-of-5 of their own.
MSOE sits third in the NCHA North Division with 17 points, two points up on Lawrence entering the final weekend of the regular season. The Raiders host St. Norbert in a home-and-home weekend series, kicking off Thursday at the Kern Center in a game that will be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
