Box Score MILWAUKEE – Sophomore Hannah Pekarek finished with 10 kills and nine digs as the MSOE women's volleyball team fell to Edgewood 25-19, 25-22, 25-13 Thursday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (0-7, 0-2 NACC) did not go down easily, leading or being tied late in each of the first two sets against the Eagles (6-5, 2-0 NACC).
Senior Sarabeth Haworth added seven kills and 11 digs, while sophomore Julia Zeamer notched six kills and a pair of service aces on the night for the Red & White.
Emily Chaussee posted a match-best 11 kills for Edgewood, while Savannah Koester tallied eight.
In the first set, it was back-and-forth until the Raiders took a 16-15 lead after three-straight points. The visitors responded with eight-straight points to seize control and closed out the set 25-19.
Then, it the second, MSOE used a 6-0 run to jump out to a 6-1 lead. Its advantage was still at five, 15-10, when the Eagles started their comeback. The last Red & White lead was 18-16 when Edgewood scored three-straight points for the lead at 19-18. The Raiders would tie the score at 21-21, but a three-point spurt was enough room for EC to close out the frame.
Edgewood then closed out the match in the third set, scoring nine-straight points early and never looking back. Even then, the Red & White fended off four match points before falling.
MSOE hit .118 for the match, while the Eagles attacked .500 in the final frame to finish at .223 for the match.
The Raiders are back in action Saturday, hosting a triangular with Macalester (1 p.m.) and Maranatha (5 p.m.).
