Box Score MILWAUKEE – Junior Braden Andryk scored twice and freshman Drew Baumann scored his first collegiate goal as the MSOE men's soccer team opened NACC play with a 3-0 victory over Edgewood on a rainy Wednesday evening at Viets Field.
Andryk converted a penalty kick in just the 14th minute to stake the Raiders (4-4, 1-0 NACC) to an early lead and Baumann doubled the advantage just over five minutes later as they led the Eagles (3-5, 0-2 NACC) 2-0 at halftime.
MSOE dominated possession early, but did not generate many scoring chances until sophomore Stephen Bagin played a dangerous through ball out of the midfield for junior Sean Tabbert. Tabbert was tripped up just inside the box for a penalty kick, which Andryk calmly converted to make it 1-0.
Tabbert was at the heart of the team's second goal, as Baumann ran on to his corner kick at the near post and put the ball in the back of the net with a glancing header in the 19th minute.
Andryk would strike again, coincidentally 14 minutes into the second half. This time, it was a solo effort, as he took the ball from the near side and sliced through the Eagle defense and blasted a shot into the net from eight yards out. The goal was his eighth of the season in eight games.
Defensively, a strong team effort limited the chances in front of sophomore Ryan Snyder. He made five saves in just under 76 minutes, while freshman Patrick Grund played the final 14:22 to complete the shutout.
MSOE outshot Edgewood 14-9 in the match, including 8-5 in shots on goal. The home side also had an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks.
The Raiders return to action Saturday at Concordia Wisconsin.
