Box Score MILWAUKEE – Sophomore Hannah Pekarek and senior Sarabeth Haworth each posted double-doubles as the MSOE women's volleyball team blew past Concordia Chicago over the final two sets to claim a 25-20, 19-25, 25-14, 25-12, victory Friday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (2-11, 1-3 NACC) scored their first NACC win of the season at the expense of the Cougars (2-12, 1-1 NACC).
Pekarek notched a match-best 14 kills against just two errors and posted a .375 hitting percentage to go with 11 digs. Haworth finished with 11 kills and a team-best 16 digs. Sphomore Elsey Kohlman chipped in nine kills on the night.
Concordia Chicago was led by Arendia Ruiter's 13 kills. Austin Thompson had 11 kills and Jaylynn Johnson totaled eight.
The Raiders hit .314 in a strong opening set. They led early, but found themselves in a back-and-forth battle. The Red & White trailed 14-13 before it took control with five-straight points. The visitors pulled within one at 19-18, but it answer with three-straight points and later closed out the set with back-to-back points.
Concordia Chicago jumped out to an early lead in the second game at 10-4 and the Raiders were not able to overtake it. They did pull within 14-13, but CUC steadily pulled away to even the match at 1-1.
MSOE then came back with dominant performances over the final two sets to take the match. In the third set, it was an 18-6 run to end the frame that turned around a slight 8-7 deficit. The Raiders then trailed 9-7 in the fourth set only to turn the tide with 14-straight points to run away with the final game and the match.
The Red & White hit a season-best .220 in the match, including three sets over .240, while holding CUC to just .086. Junior Aleah Quast gave MSOE three players in double-figures in digs with 14. Meanwhile, senior Allison Clemens contributed four service aces to the cause.
The Raiders are back in action at the Kern Center Saturday, hosting Aurora at 1 p.m.
