Box Score RIVER FOREST, Illinois – Junior Hannah Pekarek finished with 17 kills and 14 digs to lead the MSOE women's volleyball team to a four-set victory over Concordia Chicago Friday evening at Geiseman Gymnasium.
The Raiders (11-13, 3-4 NACC) rebounded from an opening-game loss to take down the Cougars (16-9, 3-4 NACC) 17-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21).
Pekarek had an efficient night, hitting .282 on 39 attacks. Senior Rachel Lynde had nine kills and senior Abby Born finished with 31 assists and five service aces.
Jaylynn Johnson led CUC with 12 kills.
MSOE got off to a rocky start, hitting -.133 in the first game before bouncing back to hit .106 in game two, .290 in three, and .216 in the fourth set. Meanwhile, the Red & White defense limited Concordia's attacking after .241 in the first set. The home team then hit .059 in the next two sets before a .000 percentage in the final frame.
The Raiders hit .124 for the night against the Cougars' .083.
After winning the first set, CUC jumped out to a 15-10 lead in game two. MSOE then rallied for 10-straight points to take control of the game, including four Born aces and three kills by junior Elsey Kohlmann.
The momentum carried over to the third set, as the Raiders jumped out to an 11-3 lead and never looked back. Their lead peaked at 22-11 before the Cougars put up a fight late. Never the less, the Red & White closed out the game to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
MSOE never trailed in the final set, breaking a 16-16 tie with five-straight points. It led 24-18 before Concordia fended off three-straight match points before a Pekarek kill capped off the victory.
The Raiders return to River Forest Saturday, playing at Dominican.
