MILWAUKEE – The MSOE wrestling team won six-straight matches to overcome an early deficit and hand Concordia Wisconsin a 27-23 defeat in a dual match Friday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (1-0) benefited from a pair of forfeits in their run, but overcame the Falcons' (0-3) 11-0 lead to score 27-straight points.
Concordia scored the first 11 points of the match with a fall and tech fall at 125 and 133 pounds. MSOE then won the next five matches via a pair of forfeits and three major decisions.
The Red & White benefited from forfeits at 141 and 157 pounds. In between, junior Sam Rathburn racked up a 16-4 major decision at 149 pounds.
Freshmen Drew Matticks and Helton Vandebush then followed suit with wins at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively. Matticks scored a 13-5 win and Vandenbush won 12-2.
Junior Ryan Snyder clinched the dual for the Raiders, wrestling up a weight class at 184 pounds. He scored the final six points of the match with the riding time point for a thrilling 21-16 decision. His points gave MSOE a 27-11 advantage in the match.
CUW scored the final 12 points of the night with a fall at 197 pounds and a forfeit at heavyweight.
The Raiders return to the mats after the New Year with duals at Dubuque against the host Spartans, Otterbein and MacMurray.
