Third Period Does in Hockey at St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minnesota - The MSOE hockey team surrendered a pair of goals in the third period in a 3-2 defeat at the hands of St. Scholastica Saturday afternoon on the road.

The Raiders (8-8-1, 4-6 NCHA) led 2-1 heading into the final period before the Saints (11-5-1, 4-4-1 NCHA) had 11 of the first 12 shots of the third period in overcoming the deficit.

Senior Zach Simpson and junior Eric Tien scored goals for MSOE and senior Zach Woodman made 25 saves in goal.

St. Scholastica opened the scoring at 12:30 of the first period and held the lead for just over three minutes.

Simpson tied the score at 15:33 on his team-leading fifth goal of the season. He was assisted by Tien and sophomore Evan Kearns.

Tien then lit the lamp himself on an unassisted goal at 11:34 of the second period.

The home team controlled the momentum coming out in the final period, finishing with an 11-3 shot advantage in the frame and netting the equalizer at 7:03. The Saints then scored the winner at just after a 5-on-3 power play, as a 5-on-4 was winding down at 11:26.

Shots finished 28-21 in favor of CSS.

The Raiders return to the ice Friday at home against No. 4 Adrian.
