Raiders Sweep Carthage In Battle Of Top 20 Teams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILWAUKEE – It has been well over a year since #16 MSOE softball team last took the field. After a season in which they started 9-1 but saw it derailed due to the pandemic, the Raiders were trying to pick up where they left off when they took on #18 Carthage. The results were a good sign that they are on the right track after sweeping the Firebirds on Friday.

RESULT
Game One
#18 Carthage – 6
#16 MSOE – 7

Game Two
#18 Carthage – 0
#16 MSOE – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first three frames between #16 MSOE (2-0, 0-0 NACC North) and #18 Carthage (0-2, 0-0 CCIW) came and went without a run scored in the first game but things quickly changed in the fourth. The Firebirds plated two in the top of the fourth and one more in their next at bat, putting the Raiders down 3-0 heading into the later stages of the ballgame. The Red & White would not go easily however and put up a five spot in the bottom of the fifth. Carthage got those two runs back and then some, taking the lead in the top of the seventh, but Jocelyn Clodi scored on a wild pitch during the Raiders side of the inning and Jenna Trewyn singled home Kara McKenna with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to take game one 7-6

The second game of the afternoon was much less chaotic. Trewyn was once again a factor with the bat, clearing the bases with a two-run double to left center to put the Red & White up 2-0 in the bottom of the first and that was all the offense they would need. Lorrin Pondo went seven scoreless with 10 strikeouts and only four hits as MSOE sweeps Carthage with a 2-0 victory in game two.
