Second Half Comeback Advances Raiders

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – 2022 NACC Tri-Champion MSOE men's soccer started their quest for another piece of hardware this afternoon when they opened up the conference tournament against Dominican. While they spent the first half down by one, the Raiders offense took over with some highlight reel goals in a 3-1 win to advance to the semifinals.

RESULT
No. 6 Dominican – 1
No. 3 MSOE RAIDERS – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Third seeded MSOE (13-2-4, 7-2-3 NACC) were forced to play from behind for almost the entire first half thanks to an early sixth seeded Dominican (10-4-3, 7-3-2 NACC) goal. The Stars tallied their first of the game in the seventh minute, and while the Raiders outshot their opponents 6-4 in the opening frame, the 1-0 deficit would hold up until the second half.
  • It didn't take long for the Raiders to even things up after the intermission though. Owen Gendrich scored his first collegiate goal on an absolutely gorgeous bicycle kick with the assist going to Tanner Cellio to make it 1-1.
  • The Red & White peppered the Stars keeper with shots and got one past him again in the 65th minute when Kilian Oelrich gave MSOE their first lead. Freddy Comparato would end the scoring at 3-1 when he knocked in a Nathan Dresen pass to give the Raiders a much needed insurance goal.
  • Ethan Houseworth didn't let one sneak by him after the initial strike and the Raiders defense limited Dominican to just four shots on goal in their 3-1 win to advance in the tournament.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • This was the first time the Raiders have taken down Dominican in the postseason since the 2015 season where the Red & White won the NACC tournament championship with another 3-1 final at home.
