PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The MSOE women's volleyball team found themselves in two set deficit to Lakeland University Thursday evening, ultimately sparking a massive comeback. However, the Raiders couldn't put the finishing touches falling just short.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Lakeland - 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lakeland (7-10, 2-3 NACC) seemed as if they could do no wrong in the first set with a hitting percentage of .211 compared to MSOE's (5-11, 0-5 NACC) .071 in a narrow fought 25-23 set going to the Muskies. The Raiders were faced with a 21-10 deficit but fought back to within three to fall just short 25-21 in set two.
- The Raiders used the momentum they built in the end of set two to stay close with the Muskies in the third set. Down 19-15, the Raider offense came alive after a kill from Ava Larson with a 10-0 run to close off the set 25-19 to force the match to continue.
- The fight continued as the fourth set went back and forth the whole way. The Muskies had a slight advantage late with a 20-16 lead, but the Raiders tied the set at 22 with a kill from Emma Schattschneider. The Raiders took three of the final four points to win 25-23 to force a fifth set that went back and forth yet again tied at 11. While the comeback was fun while it lasted, the Muskies had no trouble with the final four points to halt the Cinderella chances for the Raiders with a 15-11 set victory.
