Raiders Beat Thunder, Fall to Firebirds at Carthage Tri

KENOSHA, Wis. – MSOE wrestling competed in their first dual of the season Wednesday night, taking on Wheaton College and Carthage College.  The Raiders won their first meet of the night but were unable to topple Carthage and split the day 1-1.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 24
Wheaton – 20

MSOE RAIDERS – 19
Carthage – 25

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs. Wheaton
    • MSOE started off the meet with back-to-back losses but swung the momentum back in their favor after four wins in a row, book-ended by a 17-1 Liam Anderson technical fall and a 12-10 Joseph Estrada decision.
    • The Raiders would find themselves trailing by two points entering the final match following a couple technical falls in favor of the Thunder.  Heavyweight Noah Nieberle came through when his team needed him most, winning via fall in less than five minutes to secure the victory for MSOE, 24-20.
  • vs. Carthage
    • The Raiders traded matches back and forth with the Firebirds to open their matchup, including Connor Nagela's second victory of the day, this time via technical fall.
    • Just as Carthage was looking to put MSOE out of reach, Caleb Brick would secure a 6-3 decision win for the Raiders. Jack Schmitt capitalized on the change of momentum and won his match via fall in just 48 seconds to give the Raiders another opportunity to win in the final match.
    • Nieberle battled in the final match again, holding the Firebirds' heavyweight to a stalemate. The Raiders would ultimately drop the tiebreaker, giving Carthage the win, 25-19.
