Game Recap: Baseball |

Raiders Fall in Doubleheader to Regents

BELOIT, Wis. – After the bats were firing Sunday, the MSOE baseball couldn't find a way past the Rockford University Regents, dropping both games Monday afternoon.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 8
Rockford – 12
MSOE RAIDERS – 7
Rockford - 8

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (10-4, 2-2 NACC) worked to two men on base to begin the first inning as Collin Truitt hit a hard groundball to the second baseman that forced an error to bring Blake Hall around to score. Chris Barnes entered the batter's box next and hit a fly ball to left field for a sacrifice fly to bring Micah Overley to score to make the game 2-0.
    • Rockford (8-9, 3-1 NACC) answered in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. The Regents tacked on another run in the second inning before completely running away with five runs to lead 9-2. After adding another run, the Regents couldn't close the door on the Raiders as they scored six runs in the top of the seventh with Nolan Wojciechowski and AJ Le each having two RBIs to go down just 10-8. Unfortunately, two insurance runs from the Regents put the game away to take the first game 12-8.
  • Game Two
    • The Regents struck first in the second game with a run in the third inning. The Raiders took a lead in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Barnes and Robert Erickson stealing home on an error. Another two runs came for the Raiders in the sixth inning from Barnes again with a single up the middle and Overley hitting a sacrifice fly to left to make the game 4-1.
    • The Raiders wanted to put the game away in the seventh as Wojciechowski singled up the middle to make the 6-2, but in the bottom half of the inning the Regents scored five runs to retake the lead 7-6. Truitt tied the game in top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly to bring Barnes into score, but the Regents answered yet again with a run in the bottom half to finish their sweep 8-7.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
