Barnes Power Leads Raiders in Split to Falcons

GLENDALE, Wis. – Despite a game one offensive clinic, the MSOE baseball team split their double-header against the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons Saturday afternoon.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 15
Concordia-Wisconsin – 3

MSOE RAIDERS – 9
Concordia-Wisconsin - 14

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (11-5, 3-3 NACC) brought the bats early as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first inning as Chris Barnes blasted two home runs to begin. Kyle Labedz added another run in the second inning to make the game 9-0, but an inside the park home run from Concordia-Wisconsin (11-9, 3-3 NACC) in the third inning cut their deficit to 9-2.
    • The Raiders added insurance runs in the bottom of fifth inning with Barnes and Micah Overley each having RBI singles and Sam Meidenbauer ripping an RBI double to make the game 13-3. The Falcons added one more run in sixth inning, but Overley added two more of his own to end the game early 15-3.
  • Game Two
    • After a silent first frame for both sides, the Falcons jumped out first with two runs in the top of the second inning. The Raiders answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning with a groundout RBI from Jack Kalitowski and a two-run single from Barnes. The Falcons tied the game in the top of the fourth inning, but Barnes' third home run of the day gave the Raiders a 5-3 lead.
    • The two each added another run in the fifth inning as in the sixth inning, the Falcons put a multitude of pressure forcing bases loaded and drawing two runs off walks to tie the game at six. A pitching change for the Raiders hoped to stop their attacking but a grand slam gave the Falcons a 10-6 lead. The Raiders kept their offense going in the final three innings, but the Falcons added some insurance to hold on for a 14-9 win.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
