WAVERLY, IOWA – The MSOE men's soccer team headed west to state of Iowa for a pair of games to start their 2023 season. Having a first half lead, the Raiders couldn't stop the few shots on goals that came from Wartburg College, falling to begin the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wartburg (1-0) wasted no time to get on the scoreboard, scoring right at the six-minute mark. MSOE (0-1) didn't feel like playing at a deficit for too long as Freddy Comparato connected to Zach Thompson who scored the first Raider goal of the 2023 season. Nearing the end of the half, Nico Picha scored his first career goal to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
- The first shot of the second half came by the Knights and went right to the back of the net to ties thing up at two. As the time ticked down, the Knights took the lead with 16 minutes to go. The Raiders took a multitude of shots late but couldn't find their way through, falling to start the season.
RAIDER REMARKS
- The Raiders outshot the Knight 15-12 including 8-4 on goal.
- The Red & White played very smart, only committing four fouls compared to the Knight's 11. The Raiders also didn't allow the Knights to have corner kick opportunities through the evening.

The Raiders will have a day off before taking on the Spartans of University of Dubuque on Sunday. The game is set for a 4:00 PM start time in Dubuque, Iowa.
