MILWAUKEE – In one of the more pivotal games left their regular season schedule,
Zach Thompson recorded six points to help the MSOE men's soccer team fend off Aurora University.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 5
Aurora - 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a shot from Aurora (6-5-4, 5-2-2 NACC) early, MSOE (8-3-4, 7-2-0 NACC) looked to make a statement early as Thompson took the first shot of the game for the Red & White that just hit the top of the goal for the quick lead. After each side traded shots, Thompson sent one down the left side for Lukas Schwenke to send to the opposite corner as the Raiders took a 1-0 lead. Before the Spartans could even blink, Thompson was able to find one to squeak through the net after Tanner Cellio set him up down the middle as they took a 2-0 lead. Eight minutes later after a Nico Picha steal, he took the ball down the middle of the field to pass off to Thompson to the left for his second goal of the game as they headed into to the break with a 3-0 lead.
- Coming out of the break, the Spartans started their comeback immediately, getting on the scoreboard just 1:53 in. The connection of Thompson to Schwenke reappeared after a funky play down near the backline extended the Raider lead 4-1 but was answered by the Spartans three minutes later. The Spartans made things interesting in the 75th minute with another goal to bring their deficit within one, but three minutes on a free kick opportunity, Picha sealed things when he sailed it to the top right corner to put them ahead 5-3 to full-time.
