Hughes, Vandenbush Lead Raiders at MSOE Invite

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's wrestling team hosted their annual MSOE Invitational on Saturday inside the Kern Center, with the Red and White having one of their best outings in event history, finishing behind only Augsburg and UW-Eau Claire for a 3rd place finish in a field of twelve teams from across the midwest.

TOP FINISHERS
 
  • 125 Weight Class: Freshman Alexander Ramirez took third place, scoring 14 team points after recording a victory via fall in his opening round matchup, and ending his afternoon with a barnburner 14-13 decision win in the third-place match 
  • 133 Weight Class: Liam Anderson brought home another third place finish for the Red and White, with the sophomore stacking up 14 team points including a 10-6 decision win in the third-place match.
  • 165 Weight Class:  Toren Vandenbush would continue to impress, marching his way to the championship match at 165 pounds after a tech fall win to open the afternoon, and a 9-2 decision win in his semi-final matchup against Aurora.  The freshman would fall in the championship match via disqualification.
  • 174 Weight Class: The highest scorer at the MSOE Invite for the home team was Jackson Hughes, who recorded two victories via fall on Saturday afternoon.  The first took just 57 seconds in his opening round matchup, before grinding out another against CUW in 4:33.  Hughes would fall via decision 8-2 in his championship bout as he racked up 17 team points for MSOE.
  • 184 Weight Class:  Gavin Graham captured the consolation bracket first place spot after dropping his first matchup via fall.  The junior ripped off four straight wins via fall against opponents from UW-Oshkosh, Aurora, and UW-Whitewater as he tallied ten team points.
OTHER RAIDERS IN ACTION
  • 125 Weight Class:  Jesse Johnson took 6th place after a fall victory vs UW-Eau Claire.
  • 141 Weight Class: Max Sanderfoot took 5th with 13 team points after a major decision win in his first match of the day, and two tech fall victories over Cornell College opponents.
WHAT'S ON DECK
The Raiders will head to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Prairie Wolf Duals hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University, on Saturday, December 14th.  The action is set to start at 10:00AM.
