Baseball Sweeps Cougars, Walks Off in Game One

GLENDALE, Wis. – The MSOE baseball team showed two different ways to win games on Saturday, defeating Concordia University Chicago in both walk off fashion and jumping out to an early lead.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
Concordia Chicago – 0

MSOE RAIDERS – 9
Concordia Chicago - 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • Tyler Gronert got the start on the mound for MSOE (9-5, 4-0 NACC) and was tested early on by Concordia Chicago (10-9, 3-3 NACC). Gronert faced a bases-loaded situation in the top of the second with one out, striking out the next to batters to keep things scoreless.
    • The Raiders out hit the Cougars 8-4, but also couldn't get any runs on the board. In the bottom of the seventh, the Raiders finally had their opportunity as Brandon Beauchamp tripled himself 90-feet away from home. Blake Hall stepped in, singling into centerfield to walk it off 1-0.
  • Game Two
    • Despite going scoreless in game one, the Cougars struck early with a run in the top of the first. The Raiders answered and then some in the bottom half putting up four runs making it a 4-1 advantage early. Both sides traded runs in the second inning and the Cougars cut into their deficit after four innings, down 5-3.
    • Collin Truitt in the bottom of the fifth added some cushion, blasting a two-run home run for his second of the season to give the Raiders a 7-3 lead. The Cougars only shorten their deficit one more time but didn't mean much when in the bottom of the seventh Christian Bosque and Jack Kalitowski each brough in runs to finish off the sweep 9-4
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
