RIVER FOREST, Ill. – MSOE softball took on the Eagles of UW-La Crosse in a doubleheader on Saturday, as the Raiders bats couldn't keep pace with the Eagles on the way to being swept.
RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
UW La Crosse – 9
MSOE RAIDERS – 0
UW La Crosse – 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- The Raiders (7-9, 2-0 NACC) struggled to get any momentum at the dish, as the Raiders put up just one hit through the first four innings, while the Eagles pitching recorded five strikeouts.
- The Raiders looked to spark a comeback in the bottom of the fifth and avoid the run-rule, as Caroline Fouras drew a two-out walk, before a Faith Matta single. Jenna O'Donnell ripped a single past the infield to score one, but Matta was thrown out at third to end the game with a final of 9-1 in favor of the Eagles.
- Game 2
- The Eagles put up two runs in the top of the first, but the Raiders had a chance to answer with runners in scoring position in the bottom of the inning. Following a walk from O'Donnell and a double from Jocelyn Clodi with two outs, the Raiders were unable to capitalize and left two on base.
- The Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Raiders were unable to get the bats going in the cold, gloomy weather, as MSOE finished with four hits on the way to a 4-0 shutout loss.
