LISLE, Ill.– The MSOE men's lacrosse team got back in the win column on Wednesday night as they kicked off conference play against Benedictine University, holding off a late push from the Eagles to secure the victory in a low-scoring affair.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 6
Benedictine Eagles - 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (3-3, 1-0 NACC) came out of the gates firing against the Eagles (1-6, 0-2 NACC) as Case Roberts found the back of the net just 70 seconds into the game. A goal from Jack Civottolo two minutes later would build the Raider lead to 2-0, and 60 seconds later Dawson Smith would notch his twelfth goal of the season to give MSOE a 3-0 lead not even five minutes into the game. The Red and White seemed to be unstoppable early as Josh Scheibel would add yet another goal for the Raiders, but the Eagles would finally punch back at the 9:05 mark of the first quarter.
- By the halftime break, the Raiders would add two more to their total thanks to another goal from Roberts and one from Soren Savard. Alex Lo and the Raider defense would hold the Eagles to just three goals in the first half, and two in the second, despite Benedictine getting off 44 shots, including 21 on goal. Despite the fast start from the Raiders, the offense sputtered in the second half, getting shutout by the Eagles. Leading 6-5 with five minutes to play, the Raiders would hold off a late rush from Benedictine as they start their gauntlet of conference games with a victory.
