Baseball Drops Two to Pioneers to Wrap Weekend Series

GLENDALE, Wis. – The MSOE baseball team dropped both games Sunday afternoon to University of Wisconsin-Platteville to close out their weekend series.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 4
Wisconsin-Platteville – 5

MSOE RAIDERS – 1
Wisconsin-Platteville - 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • After a scoreless first inning, Wisconsin-Platteville (4-2, 0-0 WIAC) put the opening run on the board in the top of the second but was answered in the bottom half when Jordan Skolmar blasted a solo shot into right center field to make it a 1-1 game.
    • Skolmar continued to make his impact when in the bottom of the fourth, he sent the ball deep into right center against and raced all the way to third to bring Kyle Mayberry around to score. Later in the inning, Mayberry tested the Pioneer defense when he stole home on throw down to second on an attempted steal to give the Red & White a 3-1 lead.
    • The Pioneers offense began to click in the top of the seventh, putting up a four spot to take a 5-3 lead. Mayberry cut into the deficit in the bottom of the eighth by homering deep into right field making it 5-4, but the Pioneers finished off the Raiders in the bottom of the ninth to take game one.
  • Game Two
    • The second became a pitcher dual as JJ Jackson took the mound and allowed just five hits in six innings of work while striking out nine batters. Unfortunately, the Pioneers were the first ones to strike when in the eighth the rattled off two runs and then three more in the ninth. The Raiders made it interesting in their final frame, loading up the bases and scoring Christian Bosque on a hit by pitch, but struggled to bring the rest around to score.
