Softball Settles for Split with Firebirds

KENOSHA, Wis. – The MSOE softball team took on the Firebirds of Carthage College on Tuesday afternoon, as the Raiders got back in the win column following a Game One victory but settled for a split after going cold at the plate in Game Two.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 10
Carthage College - 6

MSOE RAIDERS – 0
Carthage College - 8

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (4-12, 0-0 NACC) took a quick lead over Carthage (14-6, 0-0 CCIW) in the top of the first after Olivia Beals drew a bases loaded walk that allowed Autumn Sadler to come across and push MSOE ahead 1-0.  After the Firebirds had tied the game up, Sadler would knock a two-RBI single in the second inning to give MSOE the lead once more at 3-1.
    • After Carthage had the game tied back up at 4-4 following the fifth inning, the Raiders would score six runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead 10-4.  Sadler started the rally with another single, this time allowing Emma Smith and Reese Konczal to score, and Carlee Emery capped it off with a bang, blasting a two-run homer as the Raiders held on to win Game One 10-6.
  • Game Two
    • In Game Two, it was the Firebirds who would get on the board first after a single through the left side put Carthage ahead 1-0.  The Firebirds would build a 7-0 lead on the Raiders by the end of the fourth inning, as MSOE mustered just three hits in Game Two.  The Raiders looked to spark a rally in the fifth inning after back-to-back singles from Emery and Beals, but a timely double play would dash any hopes of a comeback for the Red and White, as the Firebirds would successfully execute a squeeze bunt to walk off in the bottom of the sixth by a final score of 8-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
